Clinical Economic Study Support Across Numerous Product Lines

[WL Gore]

TTi provides clinical economic study support to W.L. Gore across numerous product lines.  In this specific case study, TTi developed and implemented billing collection for a large-scale, multi-site clinical study to produce valuable health economic data on thoracic branch endoprosthesis technology (GORE® TAG® TBE) developed for the treatment of different pathologies of the aortic arch and descending thoracic aorta, for which cost information is currently lacking. TTi collaborated with approximately 30 of W.L. Gore’s clinical trial sites to collect all billing data contained on UB-04, HCFA-1500, and hospital itemized charge lists to understand the in-hospital costs of this aortic repair procedure with the aortic endoprosthesis. TTi created a database and procedures to maintain and manage all of the vital billing, revenue code, ICD-10-PSC code, and CPT code data. Extensive data was abstracted from the billing forms, including procedure dates, procedure codes, physician codes and their associated costs, and itemized charge information including revenue codes, charge descriptions, charge units, and costs. Each data entry was then thoroughly checked by team members of TTi to ensure accuracy. This level of specific data provides W.L. Gore with a thorough, detailed analysis of the true cost of their patients’ procedures from sites across the United States. Using this information, the client will able to ascertain the cost drivers of aortic repair procedures with a thoracic branch endoprosthesis and gain a better understanding of how facilities are billing payers for the procedure.
